Introduction A county seat of Gallatin County, Bozeman was named after settler John Bozeman, who was killed by Indians in 1867. Situated at the base of the Bridger Mountains, Bozeman covers an area of 13 square miles. Bozeman is surrounded by the Rocky Mountains and is at an elevation of 4,810 ft.
The city is surrounded on three sides by the Bridger, Gallatin and Tobacco Root mountains.
The average temperatures in summer in Bozeman are 70s and 80s while temperature in winters hover around 30s and 40s. Winter usually extends between mid December and early April.
